Vicki: Hello. I'm Vicki Gabereau. On the show today, from the television show Andromeda, the Herculean Hunk himself Kevin Sorbo will be here and if you've been wondering what Alfie Zappacosta has been up to, he's here, he has new songs and a new lease on life, so hope you can stay tuned...

Vicki: They're so excited because one of the biggest stars in television, Kevin Sorbo is here, he fights to keep the Galaxy a safer place in Andromeda. Want to see him in action?

[Clip from Mad To Be Saved]

Vicki: Always the comedian even when he's getting pulverized.

Kevin: That was a ship of insane people I had to deal with.

Vicki: And you were keeping the camp in order. How are you?

Kevin: Pretty good.

Vicki: I'm happy to see you.

Kevin: Happy to see you.

Vicki: You always wear clothes that match your eyes.

Kevin: It's a Mel Gibson thing.

Vicki: When you do a fight scene like this, does it take hours to plan out?

Kevin: Not necessarily. I think because of Hercules I learned a lot being on the set, all those miles that we put in. So we put them together fairly quickly.

Vicki: Kind of have to.

Kevin: You do. And you shoot them faster than you want, you'd like to shoot them longer, but they turn out well, because those are all great stunt guys. I wasn't beating up another actor. Sometimes you want to [Joke].

Vicki: At least you get to keep your clothes on in this.

Kevin: This is a good thing.

Vicki: It's going on and on, this thing.

Kevin: We just got picked up for a fourth year. We're in the last week of shooting now, we wrap friday.

Vicki: You always come here the minute before you wrap.

Kevin: it always works out like that. I had today off, which is rare, sort after nice thing. So here I am.

Vicki: What's changed in the series since you began it?

Kevin: Boy, what has changed. We've had one actor leave, which was not fun for us, we lost an actor just for reasons -- he's a Canadian Actor, very good Actor, Brent Stait, but he had to leave because the costume he had to wear became too insane. He did it for a season and a half but it was head to toe make-up, for me, I would have been totally claustrophobic. We're hoping to bring him back. This season we did an episode where he came back as the character and we changed him into something less itchy, and we're hoping to bring him back for that because he's a very good actor.

Vicki: It's all that make-up, isn't it.

Kevin: I couldn't do it. One episode of Hercules, four hours in a chair, they're putting horns on you and all you really see are your eyes. Nothing else is really you. And, you know, god bless the guys who do that. I turned into the satan.

Vicki: Ah.

Kevin: I became an evil Hercules. By Season Seven you justgotta come up with new ideas.

Vicki: So you're still the most bankable star in TV, they say.

Kevin: Well, that threw me. I was number 3 in the top ten list behind Oprah and Regis, and I thought that was cool.

Vicki: it is cool. Does this mean you're rich beyond average?

Kevin: Not rich like they are, but we're doing okay. Those guys are doing like really okay. But it was sort of an honour to be thrown in that list and I did Regis the week after it came out so it was funny.

Vicki: if you had been two and he had been three there would have been hell to pay.

Kevin: I wouldn't have gotten on the show probably [Joke].

Vicki: What happens on the show? Do they treat you as well as we treat you here?

Kevin: Your show and his show [Regis] are my favourites shows to do. I'm not just saying that. It's true. You're easy to -- you come on the show, you're confident enough with who you are that you just make the show flow and it goes easy. Regis is the same way. The other talk shows in america -- I won't name names.

Vicki: Name one now.

Kevin: They put you through a series of interviews, they want anecdotes. Here you wing it, which is nice.

Vicki: if you mean Jay Leno.

Kevin: I kind of mean Jay Leno.

Vicki: It's not necessarily him. The Tonight Show has always been modelled on the pre-interview, that you have to have stories, and he has to know what the stories are.

Kevin: Exactly. And they will call you back and tell to you say certain things.

Vicki: Like?

Kevin: Say, you know, we liked this anecdote about such and such, and could you say this so Jay can say that? He's a stand-up comic. I think he can come up with it on his own. But they do it. It's really very formula and plotted out. But you get on the show, it rarely goes that way. Jay wings it anyway.

Vicki: So why could they prepare for?

Kevin: I don't know. Because he usually does his own deal anyway.

Vicki: Because if it hadn't been for the spontaneity on the show, for example, when the guy put the egg down Johnny's pants, I was going to demonstrate it but I thought better of it.

Kevin: Bring on the egg [Joke].

Vicki: I guess when I first met you, you were bigger.

Kevin: I was.

Vicki: You were bigger.

Kevin: I've lost a little bit. We've been paring it down, you know, new character, gotta have a new look.

Vicki: But you can't change your shape completely.

Kevin: Since the show started I've only dropped five more pounds.

Vicki: I thought you'd lost about 25.

Kevin: I did when the show first started, yes, but I had nine months when Hercules ended and Andromeda started.

Vicki: You didn't go to the gym every day if you're in a hotel room say in Kansas, you turn on the TV and there's Hercules there, do you seize up?

Kevin: It's still airing every day in the States, I know, It's still on. Actually I think it's on in a hundred plus countries. I love that show. I had such a good time playing the character and it was received very well by people. I think it will be around 30 years from now. We'll have a reunion where we're on rockers and people will ask for help and we'll go get outta here.

Vicki: You've been able to get another series.

Kevin: I've been very lucky, it was a game plan with my agents and managers in L.A., We just said, you know, I'm coming off a show that was so identifiable with that character, I said I don't want to become the Gilligan of my show. I really want to go on to something special and this show has been really -- something else, and this show has been heaven sent. It's much closer to home, shooting out of canada --

Vicki: You have a normal life, almost.

Kevin: I have a better schedule, and I share the screen with five other really good actors, so I get days off like this every once in a while.

Vicki: And you don't have to be a Bouncer.

Kevin: Yes. Been there, done that.

Vicki: How long were you a Bouncer.

Kevin: Couple of years, and then I bartended. Two years in Dallas, Texas.

Vicki: if you had a party, you could mix a good drink.

Kevin: Uh, no. I think that really turned me off the bars after doing that. I used to go out after college, but I became a bouncer after college and I was in Dallas working at a theatre group, working till five in the morning, I thought, you know, I don't care about bars anymore. I'd rather go to a nice restaurant and have a conversation with a friend. I don't have the patience for it.

Vicki: I'm with you.

(Music and applause)
